William Ruto allied MPs to lose parliamentary committee jobs

William Ruto allied MPs are staring at losing membership of parliamentary committees as the Jubilee party aims to discipline disloyal members.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies have initiated the process of axing key allies of DP Ruto from powerful parliamentary positions.

Through a letter to the clerk of the National Assembly, Jubilee majority whip Emmanuel Wangwe has targeted to axe four members from parliamentary committees.

“If they provide satisfactory and convincing answers, the matter will not proceed beyond the letter. If no satisfactory answer is provided, the party will be free to de-whip them from those positions,” Wangwe told The Nation.

Among those targeted include Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru who is set to be de-whipped from the Agriculture Committee where she is currently the Vice-chairperson of the Committee.

Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani, who is the vice-chairman of the Lands Committee, and Bura MP Ali Wario who is the vice-chair of the Regional and Integration committee are also on the chopping board.

Eldama Ravine MP Moses Lessonet who is in the Budgets and Appropriation committee is also to lose his membership should the jubilee party make good its plan.

Other MPs targeted are Katoo ole Metito (Kajiado South), David Gikaria (Nakuru Town East), Kareke Mbiuki (Maara), and William Kipsang (Marakwet West).

The move by the ruling party is yet another purge against perceived rebels within the party.

National Assembly Majority leader Amos Kimunya on Tuesday, January 18, said that whipping and de-whipping of members are linked to the support of the party leader’s agenda in parliament.

Kimunya’s words clearly confirm the hand of President Uhuru Kenyatta is yet another targeted purge against DP’s allies.

“Committee reorganization is a continuous process to revitalize them and ensure their leadership is in sync with the membership,” Kimunya said.

The changes will take place soon after the House resumes from a long recess next week.
