Raila, Kalonzo Head to DRC

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya party presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his Chief Cabinet Secretary nominee Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday left Kenya for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

It is still unclear what Raila, who is the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure,  and Kalonzo, Kenya’s special peace envoy to South Sudan, have gone to do in the Felix Tshisekedi-led nation and when they will be returning.

Raila and Kalonzo’s departures come just a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta and Uganda’s Special Envoy Lt. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba held consultative talks at State House, Nairobi.

The talks touched on improving security in conflict-prone areas of DRC among other things. Ugandan troops are currently embroiled in a war with Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in Eastern DRC.

Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta is also out of the country, with the Head-of-State travelling to Mogadishu, Somali to attend the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
