Kenyans wishing to travel from Nairobi City to Kisumu City will have to bear an 11-hour train ride as Kenya Railways Corporation commences passenger services on the route.
Kenya Railways has published a train schedule indicating that services on the newly rehabilitated line will begin on Friday, December 17, 2021, serving the Nairobi-Nakuru-Kisumu route.
In a statement, the cooperation announced the train would depart Nairobi at 0600hours, arrive in Nakuru at 1135 hours after which it would proceed to the Lakeside city and arrive at 1745 hours.
The first-class ticket will go for Ksh2,000 while the economy class will cost Ksh600.
Commuters have been asked to reserve their seats by contacting 0115169759 or 0115102558. One can also visit the Nairobi Central Station for bookings.
Kenya Railways also asked those who want to travel to make early bookings since there are limited tickets.
Additionally, the cooperation announced there would be a train that would depart Kisumu County to Nairobi on December 19, 2021.
The rehabilitated train has an ultra-modern look, with comfortable seats and coaches that allow passengers to relax as they marvel at the scenery throughout the journey.
The train has economy and business class coaches in a bid to attract passengers of different financial statuses and standing in the society.
The first-class passengers enjoy luxury services such as Wi-Fi, charging ports, refreshments and spacious closets to keep their luggage.
The 217-kilometre route leads to the Kisumu Railway Station from the Nakuru Railway Station and has 18 stations such as Njoro and Molo stations, 46 bridges and 27 viaducts.
“The business complex will create business opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises and create over 2,000 jobs for the residents.” the corporation stated.
