Nairobi senatorial aspirant Karen Nyamu made an embarrassing remark when she referred to William Ruto as ”Chuma ya reli” in Ruto’s campaign tour of Nairobi County
Nyamu called on Kibra residents to vote for United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party presidential hopeful DP William Ruto alluding that he is young and energetic compared to his main rival the ODM leader Raila Odinga whom she termed old to lead the nation.
“Nimetumwa an werembo wote was nchi hii, wanasema wale wanatupangia mzee kwa maoteli wawache madharau, sisi tuko na chuma hapa, tunataka chuma imesimama si ndio…..chuma ni….chuma ni….” Nyamu said as the crowd cheered her on.
Nyamu’s comments were a direct comparison of the two leading presidential contenders, Ruto and Raila in terms of their age and energy.
Her criticism was aimed at out at Mt. Kenya Foundation for forcing ODM leader on Kenyans, saying women of this country will only support DP Ruto
The Nairobi Water and sewerage director was an aspirant in the 2017 election and lost the Jubilee nomination for the Nairobi Women Representative seat.
The businesswoman who has been the subject of publicized relationship with a local musician recently joined the United Democratic Alliance party in the run-up to the August election.
In his speech, Deputy President William Ruto also hit out at the government over what he said any attempt to impose a president on the people.
“We have brains, we can choose for ourselves. You can’t choose for us,” Ruto said.
“Will we vote for a project selected by people in a hotel or are you going to select your own preferred candidate?’’ Ruto asked the crowd, in a clear attack on ODM leader Raila Odinga.
William Ruto called on youths to register as voters so as to participate in electing leaders of their choice.
