A rift is ricking DP William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance after Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa says that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will not conduct zoning in Kilifi County to determine candidates to field for elective seats at the August polls.
Jumwa, who is UDA’s Kilifi coordinator, maintains DP William Ruto-led’s party will field candidates in all positions in the county.
Her sentiments follow remarks by outgoing Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, who insinuated that his Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) party will unveil candidates of its own for the various seats in the county.
Kingi likewise claimed that he had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kenya Kwanza and not UDA, therefore he was technically not obligated to adhere to UDA’s plans as far as the Kilifi polls go.
Speaking to journalists in Malindi on Tuesday, Jumwa urged Kingi to respect and conform to UDA’s plans for the region and drum up support for DP Ruto’s presidential bid instead of fueling unnecessary opposition in Kilifi.
“Kenya Kwanza coalition and UDA has been and will continue to support actively and promote all its candidates vying for various positions in Kilifi County. There will be no zoning in Kilifi County,” she said.
Jumwa claimed that Kingi should first make amends with the people of Kilifi County before campaigning for DP Ruto, noting that the area residents had lost faith in him over what she terms as his alleged failure to better their welfare during his stint as governor.
“While we appreciate Kingi as an outgoing governor, we note with concern that his bad record as county chief may affect UDA and Kenya Kwanza popularity in Kilifi County unless he starts sanitizing himself with the people of Kilifi,” she said.
“Jamii ya Wanakilifi bado wana hatihati kwa sababu ya utendaji kazi wake mbaya ambao haukunufaisha watu wa Kilifi, kwa hivyo ili tusiweze kudhuru zile kura nyingi ambazo zingepigiwa DP Ruto kule juu aanze kutembea na kujisanitise na kujiosha kwa wananchi wa Kilifi ili akaweze kubalika na atakalolisema liwe linaweza kuadd value.” She added.
