Ruto Asks the Church to Support Him in August Polls

Deputy President William Ruto has asked the church to step forward and declare its stand in the political field ahead of the upcoming general election.

Ruto who on Wednesday attended the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya National Convention 2022 in Nairobi, said that the church can no longer continue to stay at its neutral place.

“The church must step forward in our politics. It can no longer afford to be neutral but place itself at the centre of our politics to fashion a conversation towards a Kenya We Want; an inclusive Kenya of equal opportunities for all,” the DP tweeted.

Ruto further drummed up support for his Kenya Kwanza Alliance pact saying that it will ensure that each Kenyan has a chance to work and put food on the table.

“A Kenya where everyone will have a chance to work and put food on the table. That is the Kenya that Kenya Kwanza is also modelling through its Bottom-Up Economic Model,” Ruto stated.

His sentiments came days after a section of indigenous church leaders endorsed his August 9 presidential bid.

The leaders drawn from the Federation of Evangelical and Indigenous Churches of Kenya (FEICCK) said in a press conference that they would persuade their congregation to elect the DP for the top seat.
