Collaborative Efforts Launched to Combat Rising Flood Crisis, President Ruto Assures Swift Action

In response to the devastating flood situation across the country, President William Ruto has confirmed the loss of at least 70 lives, with 36,000 households displaced due to the relentless downpour. Anticipating continued rainfall, the President emphasized the necessity for proactive measures to address unfolding emergencies.

President Ruto highlighted the gravity of the situation, prompting an emergency Cabinet meeting slated for Monday to devise effective intervention strategies. He underscored the importance of collaboration with County Governments, expressing confidence in the country’s enhanced preparedness.

During a gathering at State House, Nairobi, with disaster response agencies, the President announced the activation of a National Disaster Operation Centre tasked with coordinating responses. He assured the deployment of adequate resources to address food shortages among vulnerable groups and outlined plans for the Kenya Defence Forces to conduct airlift operations in inundated counties.

The meeting saw the presence of prominent figures including Cabinet Secretaries, Council of Governors Chairperson Anne Waiguru, Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla, and Inspector-General of Police Japhet Koome, signifying a collaborative effort to address the pressing situation.

The government’s swift action and strategic planning reflect a concerted effort to mitigate the impacts of the ongoing floods while ensuring both immediate relief and long-term solutions for affected communities.
