Good News as Keroche Set to Reopen after New Court Order

The Keroche Breweries Naivasha factory will reopen on Friday, according to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The Brewer’s Chief Executive Officer Tabitha Karanja had moved to court seeking the arrest of KRA Director General James Mburu over contempt of court.

Karanja argued that Mburu had failed to facilitate the reopening of Keroche following a court order on 14th July 2022.

The High Court in a new judgment has now directed the KRA to reopen the brewer pending the hearing and resolution of the contempt of court case.

“Based on the directions of the Honourable Justice Abigail Mshila, the Kereche factory will be reopened tomorrow 29th July 2022 at 11.00 am,” reads a letter by KRA’s Commissioner for Legal Services and Board Co-ordination Paul Matuku

Keroche is currently embroiled in a tax dispute with the taxman over Ksh 957 million in uncollected taxes, which the two parties agreed to pay in instalments over a 24-month period.

KRA shut Keroche on 15th May,2022 after the brewer defaulted on paying Ksh 8M monthly repayment plan as initially agreed.
